Summer Skincare and Nutrition Tips

As we enter the heart of summer, I wanted to post my best skincare and nutrition tips so you can keep your skin beautifully elastic while maintaining a healthy glow that lasts all summer long. Follow these guidelines and prepare to be amazed by your radiant skin regardless of the harsh sun beating down on your face.

Mineral Water

We all know how essential it is to stay hydrated, especially in the summer. I'm a huge fan of mineral water. I still drink flat water from time to time, but Gerolsteiner mineral water is a great way to not only stay hydrated but also replenish our system of depleted minerals. Gerolsteiner contains 2,500 total dissolved solids of vital minerals that get seeped from our water system daily due to pollution. You can find Gerolsteiner at Whole Foods or Trader Joe's, which I buy by the case. It instantly provides me with an indescribable clarity.

Vitamin C

In addition to that, I like to supplement with non-GMO ascorbic acid (vitamin c) to help strengthen my immune system and help relieve my body of any oxidative stress. I like the brand GMO-Free Vitamins.

Fermented Foods

The general rule of thumb is to keep your meals as colorful as possible, but I like to take it a step further and have every vegetable serve a specific purpose for my health I eat a lot of cultured vegetables (Farmhouse Culture) to help maintain my gut flora. Having a healthy digestive system is key to cognitive function and overall well-being. I think we can all relate to feeling our best when we are light on our feet and not bloated. Fermented veggies are incredibly beneficial to accomplish this high state of performance on a daily basis. I prefer Farmhouse Cultured Ginger Beets for the detoxifying properties of ginger, the hydrochloric acid in the beets, and the high vitamin c content in the cabbage. I eat it with every meal. avocados against a brown backdrop

Avocados

The not-so-secret superfood. I remember when they used to scare me away because they were 'fatty.' Those unbelievable fats help maintain elasticity in your skin and give you the plump healthy glow we all desire. I eat at least 2 avocados a day.

Aloe Vera

I highly recommend buying the plant and growing it in your yard, windowsill, balcony, or wherever you can. The live enzymes, although bitter, help clean your intestines of undigested proteins and keep everything moving smoothly. I like to cut out the clear inner part and then shave my face with the leftover lubrication on the leaf. I cannot say enough about Aloe both internally and externally post-sun exposure!

Raw Organic Cacao Butter

A great way to stay nourished while getting a little sunlight. Although I wouldn't overdo it, 20 minutes in the sun really helps our body's absorption of so many nutrients. I like to apply cacao butter before, during, and after sun exposure. I like to use the natural heat from my forearm the help warm it up so I am able to apply directly on my face and body.

Grass-fed Meats

The naturally occurring omega 3 fats and conjugated linoleic acid in grass-fed beef, lamb, bison, and elk help maintain and restore your skin's elasticity.

Collagen Tonic

I have to give credit to Dave Asprey for this one - my collagen tonic! Help restore your body’s collagen with the tonic recipe listed below! I do it once a day, sometimes twice. Unreal. 1. flat spring water. 2. 5 tbsp Bulletproof Collagen powder. 3. 1/2 tsp glycine 4. 1/2 tsp non-GMO ascorbic acid 5. 1/2 tsp lysine

Nighttime Repair

I like to wait a day after extended sun exposure to use the Alitura Clay Mask, followed by a thick layer of healing ingredients. The Alitura Moisturizer contains organic beeswax, aloe vera juice, organic cocoa butter, sea buckthorn oil, and carrot seed oil, which are some of my favorite ingredients to counteract sun damage. I apply this amazing combination before I go to bed and make sure I sleep on my back so that my face gets a full 6-8 hours of deep conditioning. I first started this when I was playing baseball.
